PICSI

PICSI = intracytoplasmic sperm injection with tested mature sperm

versus

ICSI = intracytoplasmic sperm injection (microinjection) without sperm function test

PICSI is a modified micro manipulative ICSI fertilization method. With the hyaluronan binding test, sperm are first selected before they are used for fertilization.

So far it was only possible to make a prognosis regarding fertility based on the number, shape and mobility of the sperm cells. With the help of the so-called PICSI hyaluronan binding test, due to certain membrane binding properties, mature sperm and thus fully functional sperm can be detected. It can be assumed that almost all binding sperm have fewer changes in their genetic information (DNA). These membrane binding properties are responsible for successful egg fertilization under natural conditions. It is known that even in a normally fertile man, 40% to 50% of the sperm cells show changes in the genetic information. The binding test thus identifies less genetically contaminated sperm cells and, if necessary, selects them for treatment. This increases the likelihood of pregnancy and promotes its course.
